We decided to spend our Sunday afternoon at the new museum that has just opened in Schiltigheim: the Pixel Museum, a French museum of video games, connected entertainment and video game art. Even as mere amateurs in the field, the Geteatout team had a really good time and we explain why!

A permanent museum of video games and connected entertainment

The Ludus Academy, a private higher education institution for interactive application development, opened the Pixel Museum in Schiltigheim on 25 February 2017. This new outstanding venue in Strasbourg aims to trace the history of video games but not only! You can play the classics of the last forty years, test the latest novelties like the Nintento Switch but also discover independent games. The digital world is rapidly influencing the careers of tomorrow, which is why the museum plans to organize workshops and events for children and adults.

Pixel Museum a place between past, present and future

This museum is a common ground between the different needs of a video game which are the preservation of cultural heritage, freedom of media and the power of creation and imagination.

  • Past: Through a chronological journey, discover dozens of consoles and accessories that have shaped the history of video games.
  • Present: Discover the international novelties but also the digital achievements of the local and regional companies in order to have a different look on the gaming trends.
  • Future: Test major studio games of independent developers and even participate in different workshops, conferences or meetings on the subject. You can have access to the coworking space and find new ways to let your creativity run free.

A unique place to play and create

At the Pixel Museum there is something for everyone! You can find a retrogaming room, an arcade game, a gaming zone and a pc room. What we loved here is that everyone found at a time of the visit, a game that marked his youth. As for us, we rediscovered Rayman, Adibou and of course Pokémon! Whether you are a real geek or just an amateur, this place will surprise you and remind you of the best games of your youth. We strongly recommend to visit this new place with family or friends.
